The brainchild of Mandif Warokka, the young and enterprising owner of Teatro Gastroteque in Seminyak, the Moringa menu selections boast an eclectic mix of Asian and international favorites. The result is a dynamite fusion of textures, blowout flavors and sensory impressions, surprisingly unique and unusual.

Don’t Miss: The People’s Bazaar at Moringa Bali

In commemorating Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day this 17th August 2017, Moringa Bali is hosting a People’s Bazaar or Pesta Rakyat and everyone’s invited. Not just your typical weekend bazaar, the event features a fun and fresh, exciting concept where food lovers could feast on 17 of the country’s most iconic traditional home cooking from all over Indonesia in one place and all in one day! There will also be games and prizes to be won!

Happening from 10am to 10pm on Indonesia’s Independence Day at the restaurant’s chic and elegant yet casual outlet on Jl. Dewi Sri, Chef Momo at Moringa Bali has thought long and hard on what would best represent the country’s proud history, its people and traditions as translated into Indonesian culinary that has made its irreversible mark on numerous cultures across the world today.

17 Traditional Home Cooked Dishes

Eight fantastic stalls will be serving 17 delicious, time-honoured favourites from Bali, Manado, Makassar and Betawi as well as traditional snacks or sweets from across the archipelago. Guests can expect Nasi Bejeg Bali; white rice lightly fried with shallots and sambal, ayam betutu, urap and a selection of sambal for those who crave extra spice. From Manado, there’s the famous Bubur Manado, Es Kacang Merah and Kelapa Tart, a sweet treat usually eaten after meals, served to guests or with afternoon tea.

Those feeling adventurous would love this iconic dish from Makassar – the much loved Pallu Basah is a rich, aromatic soup made by bringing a whole head of cow, cow lungs and a dash of herbs and spices slowly to boil for hours over small flames to achieve that rich flavors. While you’re at it, try the Nyo’nyang, square-shaped beef meatballs served with sambal or eaten as is, if you like.

Heard of the Tong Seng? This is a favourite amongst those in Jakarta and on this day you can try the lamb and beef version at Moringa Bali. There’s also a Betawi version of Gado-Gado called the Ketoprak, made with rice cakes and peanut sauce that’s great for a pre-meal or as a top up for the hours between lunch and dinner.

No Indonesian food bazaar would be complete without the quintessential Nasi Uduk, the people’s favourite usually eaten for breakfast but also great for any other time of the day – white rice cooked in coconut milk, and then wrapped in banana leaf, together with peanut sauce, sambal and vegetable fritters. The day will not be complete without Moringa’s all-time favourites; the Moringa Bakmie and Mie Cakalang. To top it all off, there are endless selections of Jajanan Pasar, or Traditional Indonesian Sweets including Jalankote; vegetable pastel with special sauce, sweet traditional cakes, fried bites usually containing vegetables, crackers and more.

Prizes and Fun Activities

In the spirit of unity and nationalism, guests are invited to try their hand at traditional Indonesian street games like Lomba Makan Kerupuk or Cracker Eating Contest, an Egg & Spoon Race, Balloon Dance, Indonesian Hopscotch and many more. Prizes are being given out all day including dining coupons, sweet treats and souvenirs from Moringa Bali. Those feeling like they want to window shop or browse, there will be booths outside the restaurant selling clothes, souvenirs, shoes, accessories and more. This event is open to the public and is a party for the people!
